Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Knights of Satoshi Inc. ("Knights of Satoshi," "we," "us," or "our") is a Florida non-profit corporation that operates a donation platform for Catholic parishes, schools, and organizations. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to donors and to the administrators and organizations that use the service.

2. What we collect

From administrators

The email address an administrator uses to sign in, and sign-in records such as the times of sign-in and the one-time codes we email to verify identity. We use email codes to sign in, so administrators do not create a password with us.

From organizations

Organization profile information, including the organization's name, location, and fund names, and its employer identification number (EIN). We keep the EIN private and never display it publicly.

A verification document, when the organization's verification path calls for one. An organization covered by a group exemption uploads one letter from its diocese confirming its good standing; an organization recognized individually by the IRS uploads nothing, and we confirm its EIN against IRS Tax Exempt Organization Search records instead. We store any uploaded document privately and use it only to confirm the organization's tax-exempt status.

From donors

A donor's name and email address, and the details of the gift, including the organization, the fund, the amount, the date, and related payment information. We collect this to deliver the donor's receipt and to keep a record of the gift for the organization.

Automatically

Standard technical information that our hosting provider records to run the service securely, such as request logs.

3. How we use information

We use the information we collect to:

• operate the service and the giving pages;
• verify an organization's eligibility to accept gifts;
• prepare and send donation receipts and related donation emails to donors in the organization's name;
• keep records of gifts for the organization and the donor;
• secure the service, prevent misuse, and meet legal obligations; and
• communicate with administrators about their account.

4. How donor receipts use donor data

When a donor gives, we use the donor's name and email address, together with the gift details, to prepare a receipt in the organization's name and email it to the donor. The organization is the recipient of the gift; Knights of Satoshi prepares and sends the receipt as the organization's agent under our Terms of Service. The organization can also see its own record of the gift.

A receipt states the organization's name, a description of the gift, the date it was received, and whether any goods or services were provided in exchange. It also shows the amount of US dollars the gift converted to in the organization's account, as a courtesy for the donor's records. That figure is not an appraisal, and determining the value and deductibility of a gift is the donor's responsibility.

5. What we do not do

• We do not sell personal information.
• We do not use personal information for advertising, and we do not show ads.
• We do not share donor or administrator information except with the service providers below, to operate the service, or as required by law.

6. Service providers

We rely on a small number of service providers, each of which handles information under its own terms and only to provide these services to us:

• Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides hosting, storage, and email delivery. Information is stored and processed on AWS.
• Strike provides payments. When a donor gives, the gift settles in the organization's own Strike account, and Strike processes the payment information under its own terms. Knights of Satoshi never holds funds.

We may also share information when required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of donors, organizations, the public, or us.

7. Retention

We keep information for as long as needed to run the service and to meet legal, tax, and record-keeping needs. Donation records and receipts are kept to serve as the organization's and the donor's record of the gift. Verification documents are kept while an organization uses the service and for a reasonable period afterward. We delete or de-identify information when it is no longer needed, subject to law.

8. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect information, including access controls and encryption of data in transit, and we limit who can see verification documents and EINs. No online service can be completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to keep information safe and to correct problems if they arise.

9. Children

The service is meant for organizations and adult donors. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have, we will delete it.

10. Your choices

Administrators can update their organization's profile information in the service. Donors and administrators can contact us to ask about, correct, or request deletion of their information. We honor these requests subject to our legal and record-keeping needs, such as keeping a record of gifts that have already been receipted.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make a material change, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify administrators.
